David Wanger
Upon completing his legal studies with a Master’s Degree in Labor Law from New York University in 1967, David began a 50 year plus law practice representing unions in the private and public sectors in matters before administrative agencies, mediators and arbitrators, and advising unions regarding internal issues and relationship issues with employers. His practice included participating in mediation and arbitration of a wide variety of issues and disputes including interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements, discipline cases, and the negotiation of contracts. David was a partner in several prominent union law firms, including Angoff, Goldman, Manning, Pyle, & Wanger. He is a recipient of the Archdiocese of Boston Labor Guild Cushing-Gavin Award for excellence in labor-management relations, and has been recognized by labor organizations for his services on their behalf.
David’s clients included unions representing: longshoremen and longshore clerks; editorial and business department employees of the Boston Globe, Herald American, Portland Maine Press Herald, Manchester (NH) Union Leader, Worcester Telegram and Gazette, Fall River Herald, Providence (RI) Journal, Brockton Enterprise, Christian Science Monitor, and the Newark New Jersey newspapers; newspaper and magazine distribution personnel (Teamsters) in Boston and Worcester; manufacturing, engineering, clerical and research employees of Raytheon, General Electric, Massachusetts Institute ofTechnology, and Draper Laboratory; plant protection employees in Massachusetts (General Electric) and New York (Carrier) manufacturing facilities and Vermont nuclear power plant; scrap metal yard/vessel loading personnel; water treatment plant employees; municipal public works employees; police personnel including Boston Patrolmen and State Police; Boston Public Library personnel; and firefighters employed in Boston, Worcester, Springfield, New Bedford, Taunton, Quincy, Newton, Chelsea, Lynn, Nahant, Marblehead, Salem, Swampscott, Danvers, Lowell, Lawrence, Methuen, Peabody, N. Andover, Saugus, Marlborough, Fitchburg, Gardner, Brockton, Brookline, Beverly, Winchester, Logan Airport, and Providence, R.I.
David has taught labor relations and labor law courses at the Labor Guild, Boston State College, Suffolk University Law School, and the Sloan School of Management at MIT, and has participated in various panels sponsored by the American Arbitration Association and government agencies.
Upon his retiring from law practice, David trained as a mediator and has mediated cases in Superior and District Courts, and became active in local government in his hometown of Hamilton, serving on the police chief search committee, the Master Plan Steering Committee, and the Finance and Advisory Committee, including serving as Chairman. David’s civic activities also include Meals on Wheels delivery and youth mentoring.
